Teachers of the Federal Government Girls College, Calabar, Cross River State, were allegedly assaulted by the officials of the Department of State Services for punishing students.
There were also reports of shootings during the incident though the DSS boss denied claims of his men shooting.
This is just as a teacher in the school stated that the DSS boss, Fubara Duke, lied when he claimed that his men did not shoot, adding that several empty shells expended during the DSS men’s continuous shooting at the school gates and walls were recovered, demanding that the perpetrators should be prosecuted.
Trouble started when on Thursday, a Civic Education teacher, Mr Owai Owai, beat 10 pupils of Senior Secondary 3, for forcing some Junior Secondary School pupils to sweep their (SS3) classroom while classes had commenced.
One of the SS3 pupils was said to have called her mother, Mrs. Asuquo, a DSS official, on the telephone.
Asuquo reportedly raced to the school and invited her colleagues, who stormed the college premises, shooting indiscriminately. They reportedly flogged Owai, and other teachers, who attempted to caution them.
