It was a disappointing night for Nigeria’s contingent at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards as they missed out on key awards of the night.
Having earlier seen their star player, Victor Moses dropped from the list of top 3 African players, Nigeria was hoping for a consolatory night but it was not to be. Instead, the night belonged to Egypt.
First, Nigeria’s head coach, Gernot Rohr lost out on the coach of the year award to Egypt’s coach, Hector Cuper.
Nigeria was dealt further blows, again losing out on the award of the national team of the year. The award went instead to Egypt.
South Africa’s female team also beat Nigeria to be named the Female National team of the year.
Nigeria however had a consolation as female player, Asisat Oshoala was named women player of the year. Offensive player, Junior Ajayi was also Nigeria’s sole representative in the Africa XI.
Things have not been going Nigeria’s way in recent weeks as they dropped on the FIFA ranking despite ending their world cup qualification without a lose and defeating Argentina 4-2 in an international friendly.
