Former football player, George Weah has been officially sworn in as the President of Liberia, taking over from Ellen Sirleaf Johnson who has ruled the country for 12 years.
Weah won the historic election courtesy of a run-off and today took office in what is the first democratic transfer of power since 1944, more than seven decades.
The ceremony took place in a packed Samuel Doe Stadium on the outskirts of Monrovia and was witnessed by tens of thousands of Liberians.
Also present were heads of state and several celebrity football players.
Speaking during his inaugural address, Weah said, “I have spent my life in stadiums but I’ve never felt like this.”
