Former Member of the House of Representatives, Patrick Obahiagbon has said that President Buhari deserves to seek re-election in 2019.
He also expressed optimism that his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), would do well at the polls in next year’s elections..
The APC Chieftain said this on Friday when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television Programme, Politics Today.
Reacting to the critical public statement recently written by the former President Olusegun Obasanjo to President Buhari, Obahiagbon disagreed with some of the points raised by Obasanjo and scored President Buhari high.
He, however, pointed out that the APC administration has not achieved all promised, saying it is not ‘eureka yet.’
“It is certainly not Eureka yet. But, the truth of the matter is that, given where we are coming from, this government has tried. We were in the cause of economic comatose and from the quagmire of recession, the government of President Muhammadu Buhari has been able to remove the economy from the jugulars of recession and has breathed vital life into Nigeria’s economy.”
He said further that President Buhari and the APC government has discharged their constitutional mandate “in such a way and manner that they deserve a second term outing.”
The APC chieftain, however, said that the President is expected to be more proactive in handling security challenges, especially the issue of herdsmen crisis.
“On the issue of the rampaging herdsmen, we expect and wish that Mr President will be more proactive in that area. But when you want to score President Buhari and this administration on security generally, I will want to say it is a pass mark but it is not Eureka all through,” Obahiagbon said.
