Lead Pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly, Lagos, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said he would support President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid if he canvasses for his support.
Pastor Bakare was reacting to news of Buhari’s declaration to run for a second term in office in 2019.
The clergyman, who was a running mate to Buhari in the 2011 general elections, said Buhari has the right, by constitution, to seek re-election.
“I would support Buhari If he canvasses for my support. It was the President’s prerogative to seek re-election, nothing forbade the President constitutionally from seeking re-election.”, Bakare said.
Bakare who insisted that his vote remains his secret, advised Nigerians not to confuse ‘electrocacy’ with ‘democracy’ and urged voters to be careful as the 2019 elections gather momentum.
Meanwhile, Pastor Bakare had on Sunday, April 8, during a church service said God will replace President Buhari with another tender plant from the North.
“The reason things are going haywire in Nigeria today is because God is preparing a tender plant from the side of the north.
“Once this president is out, another tender plant is entering. It will be clear to us that God preserved us for 30 years, preparing us for what he has prepared for us.”
The revered cleric claimed he was born for the purpose of saving the country, but did not reveal the identity of the person that will replace Buhari from the north.
“Let no one deceive you, there’s nobody with the capacity to deliver Nigeria until that day; that day is coming, it is very near. The reason we refused to compromise our lives and to diminish our values is so that nobody can diminish our influence. There’s only one assignment left for me – it’s not down, it’s up.
“I am not politicking with you; I am declaring thus saith the Lord – to this end was I born, for this purpose came I into the world that Nigeria will be saved, Nigeria will be changed, and Nigeria will become great in my lifetime. The mouth of the Lord has spoken it and the zeal of the Lord shall accomplish it.”
President Buhari on Monday announced his intention to re-contest in the 2019 presidential election after the National Executive Council meeting of the APC held in Abuja.
