BREAKING: Arsenal To Face Atletico Madrid, Marseille Take On Red Bull In Europa League Semifinal #UELdraw

Arsenal’s reward for securing a place in the semifinal of the Uefa Europa league is a clash against Spanish giant, Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal were drawn against Atletico in the Europa League semi-finals while Marseille was paired with Red Bull Salzburg in the other last-four encounter.

Winning the Europa league represents Arsenal’s only chance of qualifying for the Uefa champions league next season after the Gunners slipped out of contention for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

In 2017, Manchester United did something similar as they, after failing in the league, won the Europa league to qualify for the champions league.

Wenger can take solace in the fact that his star playmaker, Mesut Ozil, has scored four goals against Atletico – the highest he has scored against any side.

But Wenger will be worried with Arsenal’s first half display in the 2-2 draw against CSKA Moscow in Russia last night.

Diego Simeone’s team also endured a stumble in the second leg of their quarter-final, as they eventually edged out Portuguese side Sporting 2-1 on aggregate, but boast the firepower to trouble the best in the business.

Marseille will have their sights set on a final outing on French soil.

They overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit against RB Leipzig in the quarter-finals to prevail 5-2 in the return date and keep their dreams alive.

Salzburg are next up for them, with Serie A heavyweights Lazio having been stunned by the Austrians in the last eight – as they won 4-1 at home on Thursday to secure their progress.
