More details have emerged as to what really happened on the floor of the Nigeria Senate this morning after the Senate was invaded and the mace stolen.
News broke that the Senate plenary was ongoing when some hoodlums made their way into the Senate chambers and made away with the mace.
Speaking on the matter, TVC news correspondent, Sumner Sambo gave details of what really happened.
He told the news bulletin that the Senate plenary had began in orderly fashion with deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu presiding over plenary.
The Senators were however taken by surprise when Senator Ovie-Agege, who was suspended by the Senate days ago, came into the chambers with five other persons.
The Senator, who was not supposed to be attending plenary, made his way to his seat and sat comfortably, ready to witness what was about to unfold.
The said persons, suspected to be hoodlums, made their way to the front of the chamber and disrupted the plenary before causing a melee and making away with the mace.
All efforts to stop the hoodlums from getting away proved futile as the National Assembly officers were overpowered and some injured in the process.
The National Assembly is currently on lock-down as there are tons of security personnel searching the premises as they aim to retrieve the mace.
It has also been reported that Senator Omo-Agege is currently in a closed-door meeting with the leadership of the Senate.
The mace is the symbol of the legislative power of the Senate and without it, the Senate would be unable to sit or hold plenary.
