The coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Gernot Rohr has assured Nigerians not to entertain any fear as the team would not lose their match against Iceland.
Rohr stated this during the pre-match press conference ahead of Nigeria’s second group game vs Iceland.
While answering a question from a journalist over his future with the team should the Super Eagles lose and crash out of the world cup, Rohr said:
“For me, it’s not a question to lose this game. I think that we will not lose this game so I don’t ask this question myself…but I’ll tell you we will not lose.”
The coach also waved away criticism from current Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho over the best position for captain John Mikel Obi.
Mourinho, who coached Mikel for several years at Chelsea, slammed Rohr for playing Mikel in the number 10 position instead of the number 6 position he was used to at Chelsea.
“A very well known colleague was saying we lost a good number 6 but you know for two years, we worked we Obi Mikel as a play-maker and we qualified without any defeat; the first African country for the world cup and nobody ased this question”, Rohr said.
“When you lose a match, this question can be asked and I understand it”
