Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr has played down the absence of Chelsea winger, Victor Moses, saying that Bordeaux winger, Samuel Kalu can be a good replacement.
Speaking during an interview session ahead of Nigeria’s Nations’ Cup double header against Libya, Rohr revealed that the new set of players are impressing and is hopeful that they would deliver.
Victor Moses announced his retirement from international football shortly before Nigeria’s qualifying match against Sychelles.
Kalu was called as a replacement for the Chelsea winger and the Bordeaux man gave a good account of himself, impressing the coach and fans alike and Rohr has high hopes for him as well as the other young lads in the team.
“Kalu can replace Victor Moses on the right wing. We have new players (Ajayi, Collins) and also the the comeback from (Isaac) Success,” the coach said.
Speaking on the Libyan team, he said:
“They have a very strong team so we have to work very hard to be able to win the first game and if we win the second game also, we (would have) qualified.
“We’ve had good training sessions, we have also had some meetings, speaking to players”
The first leg of the Nigeria vs Libya match will take place on Saturday, 13th October in Uyo by 4pm while the second leg comes up three days later.
