“I’m Not In Support Of Threats Against Foreign Observers” – Buhari Distances Self From El-Rufai’s Comments

El-Rufai and Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has distanced himself from recent threats to foreign observers of the 2019 election made by Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

El-Rufai had warned the observers to maintain a neutral stand during the election as any attempt to interefere would spell danger for them.

The governor threatened that any foreigner who was uncooperative would return to his country in a ‘body bag’

Buhari has however assured the foreign observers of maximum security and protection, saying the Federal government is not in support of ‘threat or intimidation against the observers.

“I want to assure all Nigerians, the diplomatic community and all foreign election observers of their safety and full protection. Any comments or threats of intimidation from any source do not represent the position of the Federal Government of Nigeria.” – Buhari said in a nationwide broadcast yesterday.
