President Muhammadu Buhari has showered encomium on former President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing him as great patriot whose contribution to Nigeria can’t be over-emphasized.
Obasanjo turned 82 years old yesterday and Buhari used the opportunity to eulogize the former leader of the country, saying Obasanjo’s contribution to Nigeria is greater than their political differences.
It would be recalled that Obasanjo and Buhari fell out publicly with Obasanjo writing a series of open letter where he bashed the current president for failing in government.
This degenerated into a word of war between both camps ending with Obasanjo endorsing his former Vice, Atiku Abubakar to take over from Buhari.
However, Buhari set all that aside as he reached out to his former boss. He wrote on his official twitter handle:
“As he celebrates his 82nd Birthday Anniversary, I wish Chief Olusegun Obasanjo more good health, knowledge and wisdom in the service of Nigeria and humanity.
“The former President is a passionate and great patriot who deserves accolades for his immeasurable contributions to our democracy and national unity.
“Regardless of our political differences, I still hold him in the highest esteem because his contributions to the development of Nigeria overshadow those differences.”
Recalling their days together in the country’s Armed Forces, Buhari noted, “Chief Obasanjo gave a good account of himself and inspired his juniors with his wit and other leadership skills.”
