These are surely not the best of times for the now former governor elect of Bayelsa state, David Lyon, after the Supreme court nullified his election.
Lyon was expected to be sworn in as governor of the state tomorrow while his running mate, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo was expected to be sworn in as the deputy governor.
Things however took a bad turn on Thursday when the supreme court disqualified the APC deputy governorship candidate, Degi-Eremienyo, as a candidate in the election.
He was disqualified on the grounds that he presented false information about his educational qualifications in his Form CF001 submitted to INEC as a candidate for the 2019 election.
Degi-Eremienyo’s disqualification also meant that Lyon was disqualified seeing that they ran on a joint ticket for the state’s highest position.
The disqualification would be especially painful for Lyon as he was already preparing to be sworn in. Pictures emerged showing Lyon being put through the protocol for the inauguration ceremony tomorrow.
