According to emerging reports, a former Minister of External Affairs, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, may be the next Chief of Staff to the President.
Although the Presidency has yet to formally confirm this, there are strong indications that the announcement will be made at the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, May 13, 2020.
Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari was Minister for External Affairs between 1984 and 1985.
He was appointed by the secretary-general of United Nations, Ban Ki-moon and the chairperson of the African Union Commission as Joint African Union-United Nations Special Representative for Darfur effective from 1 January 2010.
He also served as the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations (USG) for the Department of Political Affairs (DPA).
If his appointment is confirmed, Gambari will replace Mallam Abba Kyari, Buhari’s former CoS who died after a battle with COVID-19
